Dear Radium Audio
Thank you so much for the opportunity to show you my work. Below is a brief insight into my six genre-specific tracks; my creative track and the performance piece that I decided to show you. I'm thrilled to be applying.
Musicianship Demo
Harmony composition (guitar), bass guitar from track H, piano improvisation and rhythm guitar from trailer track B.
HARRY KIRBY A [POP/INDIE] - 48/24
Originally titled 'Control Your Future', this track is designed as a motivational composition with a catchy and dynamic theme that flows steadily into a large anthem-like chorus section. Featuring live bass and Fender Telecasters through a British tube amp (Cornford Roadhouse), with additional Gibson SG for chorus melody.
HARRY KIRBY B [TRAILER] - 48/24
I composed this track from the 1st to the 3rd of September, to demonstrate a trailer piece that uses multiple music styles and contemporary production techniques. This track features live guitars, bass and sequenced drums combined with non-ensemble based orchestral sample instruments, including first and second violins; violas; celli and basses; trombones; French horns and trumpets and some heavily processed orchestral percussion.
HARRY KIRBY C [ELECTRONIC/POP] - 48/24
I have little to show for the Electronic/Dance genre so I composed this piece specifically to show my willingness to learn and jump in at the deep end. I have a great respect for a wide range of music; while researching for this track I listened to lots of chart music including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and some lesser known acts such as Hurts and M83.
HARRY KIRBY D [POP/INDIE] - 48/24
This track is originally called 'Sunset Boulevard'; a library track celebrating all things soulful. Featuring a Gibson Lespaul and SG; a Stonebridge Acoustic guitar; an ESP Bass and a handful of light percussion all performed and recorded by myself.
HARRY KIRBY E [FANTASY TRAILER] - 48/24
HARRY KIRBY F [EMOTIVE/TRAILER] - 48/24
'Revival' is an orchestral composition all sequenced, programmed and produced by myself. This piece begins in a dark and desperate place, and finishes at the top of Mount Everest.
HARRY KIRBY G [CREATIVE TRACK] - 48/24
I composed this piece for a promotional video by CineCity. The company held a Patrick Hamilton exhibition featuring a large film set re-invention from the 1945 Hollywood interpretation. My score accompanied a time-lapse sequence of the set being made. To my amusement, the story is about a composer driven mad by music!
HARRY KIRBY H [PERFORMED PIECE] - 48/24
My live performance skills feature in most of the tracks above. This particular track clearly demonstrates my ability to perform a single melody or riff. I do so with good timing (on multiple instruments), expression and all the little nuances that make a performance feel right; the things that a seasoned musician will pick up through hours of practising, recording and composing. Again, everything is sequenced, or performed, and produced by myself (including backing vocals).
Additional Info (Orchestration & Ensemble Recording)
I wanted to mention that during my Master's degree I studied a great deal of harmony and orchestration (including hand-written). In fact, two years prior to my MA I started a small journal of modulations and harmony ideas. I'd love for you to see the images below, as I also learned some conducting techniques and recorded a string quintet in Bristol's Victoria Rooms.
